When/Why did you start CrossFit?
I did my first baseline WOD in Oct. 2013 at Hyperfit in Ann Arbor and I threw up because I’ve never pushed myself that hard. The reason why I began crossfit is because I wanted to do something different. I started out at Planet Fitness for 3 months and needed a challenge. With Crossfit, I got it. My wife was a huge inspiration because she worked out every day at home and I needed to make a change to become healthier.
How has CrossFit changed you?
Crossfit has changed me for the better as far as the way I look at life and how I think of myself (I used to weigh 270 pounds). I have a lot more self-confidence with my body image and I am able to do anything I want physically because I am stronger and more fit. I’ve changed the way I eat and approach it with an attitude of everything in moderation. It changed me mentally and physically. I’ve learned not to quit. I can keep going and push my body past what my mind thinks is possible. It is a very powerful feeling.
What are your strengths/weaknesses in the gym?
I don’t feel I have any particular physical strengths. There is always something I can prove to be better at. However, I think my mental attitude is my strength. Everyday I just strive to be a better version of myself.
I have tons of weaknesses…double unders, and most gymnastics movements.
What is your favorite WOD?
I love Cleans; power, squat or hang, any WOD for time, and surprisingly, wall balls.
