When/Why did you start CrossFit?
I started CF in September 2013. I had been wanting to try CF for years, but couldn’t justify the cost (Must be the accountant in me, I’m a bit frugal). A coworker joined CFLT and nagged me for a solid 6 months to join. I finally caved and said I’d do it for a month to see what the hype was about. I was hooked immediately.
How has CrossFit changed you?
CF has changed my view of weightlifting quite a bit. When I started CF, I never planned on moving heavy weight, and preferred MetCon classes and bodyweight movements. I was a runner, so cardio was more my thing. After taking weight training classes in high school, my shoulders started to get a bit ‘linebackerish.’ I vowed to stay away from heavy weights to avoid getting bulky. During WODs, my form on lifts was pretty terrible, so I was talked into taking an OLY class. After a couple classes with Hatton, I started to become addicted to the barbell and wanting to lift heavier.
What are your strengths/weaknesses in the gym?
Strengths: Metcon type/endurance WODs
Weakness: Moving heavy weight fast, especially heavy squats.
What is your favorite WOD?
Anything with a run because it tends to be an equalizer for me. I’m pretty slow at moving heavy weight, so I can make up some time on the run. Murph, Cindy, double unders.
Brittany spent her first couple years of college at MSU (She’s a UofM fan all the way, though), and graduated from Eastern with her BBA & MSA. She started interning as a tax accountant at Deloitte in 2010, and became a CPA in 2012. She now works at Rehmann, where taxes pretty much consume her life outside of the gym. Brittany trains at 5am and has been hitting PR after PR!! That along with her positive attitude and willingness to learn makes this an easy choice. We could not be more proud of you Brittany!! Keep up the good work in your journey for living a healthy lifestyle!! Can’t wait to see what you accomplish in 2015!!
